The Sunday before last, we saw just a tiny bit of snow in our area. I took the opportunity to explore the forest beyond our backyard. It is considered a Native Growth Protection Area and considering that I wasn't about to build a Home Depot on the spot, I decided that it would be okay to scout out the woods. Took me back to my days in Elkridge, MD when the neighborhood kids and I would venture out into the trees. There's a nice size stream back there, but it's not an overall large area.
Last week was when we really got dumped on by the snow. I would guess that we got about 10 inches total over Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. I wrote about it in a separate post that you can read here. Bethany and I haven't seen a storm this bad since we moved back to WA.
Juliana absolutely loved the snow. It was fun to watch her eyes light up when she first looked outside. We built a snowman and went sledding a bit.
Our cars were practically popsicles. I went to work on Friday, but it took me nearly 40 minutes to defrost my car. There was ice all over it nearly an inch thick!
We were without power for a total of 40 hours during the storm. It's a good reminder of how important electricity is. It is not fun to freeze your nips off.
The main reason we had so many power outages here were because of the falling trees and ice on power lines. As you can see here, the ice on the trees made them probably 4-5 times heavier. And since we have so many of them here in the PNW, they fell onto power lines. View more pictures from the snow in the full set.
