While watching the new revisited Kitchen Nightmares episode last night (which was totally lame), a commercial came on that I immediately recognized. It was for Microsoft Windows and featured Jerry Seinfeld with Bill Gates in a shoe store. Believe it or not, I did not hear about this new ad at work even though I work in the building that edited the freakin' thing. I didn't find out about it until I read about it on the Internet a few weeks ago. When I did learn about the ad, I asked around to see if we were indeed working on it. Sure enough, someone was, but it was all very hush-hush. I think it's ridiculous how the public can find out about an advertisement for Microsoft before I do.
The commercial definitely used a lot of Seinfeld humor which I liked. A lot of slick analogies for Microsoft as a company in general. You can tell that this is just the first part of a long series of ads that will feature the two. One thing that separates the Windows commercial from the Apple Mac ads is the lack of bashing. I think Microsoft is better than that and people shouldn't expect them to come out of the gates firing right away. It's to get people to talk, and they are talking. I totally expect an Apple ad mocking this one very soon. Still, it's a fresh and funny ad and I'm proud to work in a company that created it.
