First off, you'll notice an immediate change of the type of desk I have.
This used to be my desk. It was black and higher up. I liked it.
This is my desk now. I like it more than my old set up only because I have more desk space.
These are our fancy new VoIP phones. They are touchscreen. As you can see, they have Office Communicator installed on them. It's basically Skype with incoming and outgoing land line calls, too. At the very top of the number pad is a fingerprint scanner. Biometrics FTW!
My favorite picture of Jelly on my desk. I have a bunch of Office 2007 books, but I don't think I've cracked open any of them. Office 2007's GUI is a lot different than previous versions, but that's all that has changed. Every once in awhile, I have to Google how to do things in some Office applications because they've moved.
I wouldn't get very far in my day if I didn't have humor to keep me going. Pearls Before Swine is my favorite comic strip that is posted in newspapers now.
I have the picture of Dwight that Pam made in the season 5 premiere. You can get it here. I actually don't think Dwight is very funny and much prefer Garath from the U.K. version, but I thought the ASCII art was hilarious.
I have a fancy nameplate, but my desk faces in, not out, so it's not very useful.
This is my Mac. I only have Tiger installed. I don't use it very much, but I like to fool around with it sometimes to learn some of its capabilities. I like it, but prefer Vista Ultimate much more. I did have to use it a lot recently when I rebuilt my laptop with dual boot Vista and XP.
Another picture of Juliana, but this time with Bethany also. I use the water bottle a lot, especially when I'm on a diet. I have to drink my 8 cups per day!
i like your new desk a lot more. that the old one. i wish my work phone was that fancy. i was super excited to finally get my own work email though. so thats awesome.
ReplyDeleteMan, I love VoIP phones. We installed them at Lakenheath before I left...I actually had to install the VoIP server. They're so much better, more practical, cheaper...it really is a win-win for everyone. How come regular phone companies are still in business?
ReplyDeleteWhen Courtney and I got to Mississippi, we got cellphones and that's it. For landline calls (and web conferencing, premium-rate calls) at home I use Skype and Yahoo Messenger,
Jason,
ReplyDeleteWho does AMC contact if you guys have trouble with your computers? Need desktop support?
Carlos,
VoIP phones are sweet. What's awesome about the VoIP phones at MSft is that they work hand-in-hand with our computers. If we lock our computers, our phones will automatically forward calls to our cell or go straight to voice mail. It also works with our Instant Messaging program and Outlook Calendar.
We also only have cell phones for personal use. There's no need for us to have landlines here. We used to use Skype for video calls when we were living in Texas, but have no need for it now that we're back in WA.
AMC Help desk. our internal IT group. they are totally overworked and not enough of them. they handle everything from any desktop issues, pos problems, along with taking all service calls for projector stuff.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how much they make... not that I'm looking for a new job or anything...
