The Nightmare Before Christmas 3-D Review

There are no spoilers in this review.

PLOT: Jack Skellington, king of Halloweentown, discovers Christmas Town, but doesn't quite understand the concept.

THE GOOD: Movie. This is not meant to be a review of The Nightmare Before Christmas. It is one of my favorite films of all-time. The claymation, the music, the story, the characters -- everything about the movie is perfect to me. I remember my dad taking me to see it during opening weekend when we were living in Irvine, California. I liked the movie so much, I bought the soundtrack and quickly memorized all the words to the songs. The film gathered a huge cult following in the more recent years and Disney and Tim Burton felt motivated enough to turn the movie into Disney Digital 3-D. The reason I haven't been able to review the movie until now is because since it's initial 3-D release back on October 20, 2006, there has not been a local theatre playing the movie. In 2006, we were living in San Angelo and the nearest theatre playing it was 4 hours away in San Antonio. In 2007, we were driving back up to Seattle. So, I kept my eye on the Halloween weekends to make sure I caught NBC in 3-D this year. If you have not seen the movie, rent it, download it, steal it, watch it NOW!

3-D. The 3-D wasn't really what I was expecting. I thought there were going to be a lot of cool things flying out at you. There's nothing really like that in the movie with the exception of a small scene right before the beginning when a jack-in-the-box pops out at you telling you to put your glasses on. However, that doesn't mean the 3-D wasn't cool. I swear it was like watching the movie for the first time all over again. The 3-D added physical depth to the film. Characters and the foreground were more pronounced and focused. It was the best 3-D movie I've ever seen.

THE BAD: Nothing.

THE END: My family is going to make watching The Nightmare Before Christmas 3-D during Halloween a yearly event. With our luck, Disney will stop releasing it next year, but if that happens, then we'll just continue the tradition at home with the DVD. The movie felt so new to me that I had to watch it again barely a week later on DVD at home. Go see this movie as soon as you can!

DISCUSS: Did you like The Nightmare Before Christmas when it first came out? Have you seen it in 3-D? What are some of your favorite 3-D movies? Did you like Corpse Bride? Are you looking forward to Coraline?
