Today, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer announced the company's new search engine that is hoping to beat, or at least rival Google's. It is called Bing and it is sort of the rebranded version of Microsoft's Live Search. I didn't think Live Search was that bad. I certainly enjoyed some of its features, but I still use Google for my everyday searching needs. Bing will go live on June 3, 2009, but you can head over there now to use a preview version. From what I can tell, there's still a lot of bells and whistles that will be added to the full version. If you don't see a preview version when you go to bing.com, a nice three minute preview video that I believe was edited in my building should be embedded there that you can view. You can expect to see more advertising on it coming up on TV and in magazines.Bing looks to be Microsoft's best search engine so far, but I still don't think it's going to beat Google. I do like how reviews for products, stores, and restaurants are super specific now. A digital camera, for example, is not only rated overall, but for zoom ability, ease of use, photo quality, speed, size, cost, etc.
Below is Bing's launch video (6 min.), which I believe was also edited in my building:
Does Bing stand for "But It's Not Google"? Heehee.
