We've been having abnormally good weather in Seattle recently. So, two Saturdays ago, we decided to ride a ferry from Seattle over to Bainbridge Island. We parked our car in Tukwila and rode the light rail up to Pioneer Square, which you see here.
From the metro station, it's just a short walk to the ferry terminal along the Seattle Waterfront. Here is Julie and Bethany in Pioneer Square.
There are two vehicle and passenger ferries and one passengers-only ferry that leave from Seattle. We decided to take the Bainbridge Island ferry since it's the shortest ride across the Puget Sound. You can also ride to Bremerton or Vashon Island.
All of the vehicles in line waiting to load on the ferry. Downtown Seattle behind them. Taking a ferry ride is a great tourist attraction and is a pretty good deal, too. It's only $6.90 per person for a roundtrip ticket. A bit more expensive if you take your car.
Boarding the ferry. Lots of people decided to ride since the weather was so nice, but it wasn't overly crowded.
Juliana and I on board the ferry. I was expecting fantastic views of the city.
And fantastic views is what we got! I must have taken a couple hundred pictures of Seattle from the upper deck. ^^;
Julie doing an "I'm the king of the world" pose. She enjoyed the boat ride very much. It was the largest boat she has ever been on.
Panoramic view of the Seattle skyline from the Puget Sound. This can be zoomed in on quite a bit.
Lots of sailboats out on the water. Seattle is getting further and further away.

Getting off the boat at the dock in Eagle Harbor on Bainbridge.
For lunch, we went to Bainbridge Island BBQ which I found recommended online. Boy am I glad I got the tip because the food there is so good! As you can tell, the restaurant looks like a house, but don't let that deceive you.
I had the beef brisket sandwich with their homemade cream corn and macaroni and cheese. Bethany got an elk cheeseburger. The food is so affordable, too! I think Bethany's burger with two sides was only a little over $7. You can barely find a regular burger for that price! Everything was so tasty that I would take the trip over to Bainbridge Island just to eat here again. As you can see, I wasn't the only one that enjoyed their food.
After stuffing ourselves with lunch, we rolled ourselves down Winslow Way East, which is pretty much the main street of the town. Lots of antique-type shops.
Another suggestion I found online was for Mora Iced Creamery. It's a small ice cream shop that makes small batches of fresh yumminess. I had their chocolate peanut butter moreo and it was delish. Bethany got the cheesecake with brownie.
We walked around for a little bit more after that and then headed back to the ferry terminal to go back to Seattle.
A smaller ferry floating by.
Alright, one last shot of Seattle before we move on. I love our city.
Julie decided to put a bunch of glittery stickers on my face after work the other day. Nice of her to do that. >.>
Last Saturday was Juliana's third birthday! We did a Hello Kitty themed party, so Bethany made this cake shaped like Hello Kitty's head. It was very cute and tasty.
Bethany's friend Veronica brought her son, David, to the party. I haven't seen Veronica since well before I joined the military.
Julie sitting at the kids table with friends Hannah and Emma, and my cousin, Rae Anne.
One of the activities we had was face painting. Here is James getting a fishy on his cheek.
Opening birthday presents. She got a lot of cool stuff including a Radio Flyer wagon, a Leapster Leaptop, and a VTech digital camera. The camera is made for kids as it's practically indestructible. The quality of the photos is not great, but it's still fun to look a things from Julie's perspective.
Here is an example of one of the pictures she took. Bethany started a Flickr account for Julie where you can keep up with all her photos. 72 uploaded so far with more uploaded often.
Hannah and Julie enjoying the Radio Flyer. It's pretty neat. They're much better than they used to be. Seats, seat belts, and cup holders!
Overall, it was a great birthday party and I still can't believe my little girl is already three years old.
On Tuesday, my dad and I went to the 2010 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final with our Seattle Sounders FC versus Columbus Crew. Basically, it's a countrywide tournament and gives a seat for the CONCACAF Champions League next year. It's a big deal in the soccer world. Here is the crowd heading towards Qwest Field for the game.
Spotted Drew Carey (he's the closest guy wearing a green jacket and a hat) while watching and listening to the Sounders FC band. He is one of the owners of the team and I'm sure he didn't want to miss this important match. Looks like he's lost a significant amount of weight.
Heading into Qwest Field. It was a perfect night for soccer. My dad had never been to a Sounders game before, so to be able to share this experience was a real treat.
Throwing up banners at the beginning of the game.
The cup being carried down to the field.
Kick-off. Columbus started with the ball in the first half. They scored first, too, with a goal in the 24th minute. Overall, I wasn't impressed with the Sounders' performance. Nkufo blew more chances than I would have liked to see and Tyson Wahl looked really scared out there. Columbus definitely played their right side a lot knowing this. Pretty sure I saw Casey Keller yelling at Wahl a couple times.
The ref seemed a bit more harsh on Seattle as well. Thankfully, Sanna Nyassi has really found his game lately and scored the equalizer in the 38th minute. That wasn't all. In the second half, he scored the winning goal in the 66th minute to a loud, chanting, and cheering crowd of 31,311. The attendance broke an 81 year old record for an Open Cup final (last year only had 17,329).
My dad and I had a really great time. It was an exciting game! Some other facts from the Sounders' win: Sounders became the first team in 27 years to win back-to-back Open Cup championships. They are the first MLS team to be repeat champions. Nyassi became the first player in the professional era to score two goals in the final. Columbus Crew remain winless against us in 5 meetings (0-3-2)! Nate Jaqua tied for most goals of the tournament (5 with Paulo Araujo Jr. of Miami FC). I lost my voice the next morning. You can read an in-depth recap of the match here.
A night shot of Qwest Field as we were walking to the light rail station. I love Sounders games. I'm so glad our city has embraced the team and the sport of soccer with an incomparable passion.
