Spring/Summer 2010 Anime Review

It's time to look at all the anime I watched during the Spring and Summer and see what I'm looking forward to this Fall. Sorry for posting this way late to the two people who will end up reading all of this. I only recently finished some shows that played last season. Read my past anime season and movie reviews here. If you have little to no interest in anime, do not bother reading any of this post. Let's get to it.

Spring/Summer 2010 Reviews:

K-On!! - I have a new favorite anime series of all-time and it is K-On! While the first and second seasons don't have an extensive storyline, it completely makes up for it in the writing, the voice acting, the animation, and the comedy. It's top notch. THE BEST! I have really embraced this show with the rest of Japan (it ranked #1 in the country). Yui is one of my favorite anime characters of all-time. She is my unofficial 2D girlfriend. Mio fans can have that scaredy cat. I'll take my Yui-chan any day of the week. The show is such high quality and the laughs really do roll out consistently every episode. Even Bethany enjoyed watching it sometimes. Yes, that's right. I got Bethany to watch anime, with the help of K-On. The show is not for everyone and it's certainly not good for a person new to anime, but it's great.

Giant Killing - Japan's #2 ranked anime was also enjoyed by myself. Giant Killing is about a struggling Japanese soccer team called East Tokyo United. Their fans are starting to abandon the team and they are facing relegation. In an effort to improve their performance, ETU hires a new coach, the slightly eccentric Tatsumi Takeshi. Tatsumi, who was considered a great soccer player when he was younger, takes the team a new direction. If you've been reading my reviews, you'll notice that I don't really watch much sports animes. That's not to say that they are bad, but they are just not my style. Well, I was looking for a good soccer anime to watch and Giant Killing is perfect. It's pretty addicting and almost always ends on a cliff hanger that leaves you wanting more. I really like this show.

Kaichō wa Maid-sama! - Seika High School, once an all-boys school notorious for its wild students and for generally being a terrifying place for girls, has recently become a co-ed school. Misaki Ayuzawa takes it into her own hands to reform the school and allow the girls to feel safe in the rough environment. However, Misaki has a big secret. She works as a waitress at a maid cafe. When the most popular boy at school finds out about this, hilarity ensues. Maid-sama was actually a delightful show, but nothing to write home about. The characters were well-developed and the writing was funny. I recommend this one.

This Fall has a few good shows that I plan on checking out. My most anticipated one is Bakuman which is based off of a super popular new manga series in Japan. It's about some high schoolers who want to become manga artists. Then there's Ore no Imōto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai, which translates to My Little Sister Can't Be This Cute. It's not as disturbing as it might sound. Basically, this guy's younger sister who is a model and popular in school is actually a secret otaku and he finds out about it. Sounds good. Finally, there's The World God Only Knows, which is about a bishōjo game player who must make girls fall in love with him. That way he can capture runaway spirits hiding in the girls' hearts. Could be good.

Remember, you can always see what shows I'm currently watching by my small anime section on the bottom right. If you are still here, thanks for reading!
