Last week, before Thanksgiving, western Washington went through a major snowstorm. I don't remember the last time it snowed that much and in the middle of Fall. It took me two hours to drive home on Monday, but I was one of the lucky ones. We had know someone who was stuck on a bus for six hours! By Tuesday, it was not safe to drive, so I stayed home from work and played in the snow with Julie.
We had an absolute blast! I showed her how to make snowballs and brush snow off the car. I also showed her how to break off icicles, which you see her doing here.
As much as I hate the feeling of being snowed in, the snow certainly leads to some beautiful views in Washington state. Our state is so green to begin with and it contrasts wonderfully with the snow.
Later on in the day, I took Juliana sledding. It was her first time ever doing it. Of course she loved it! Here's a picture I took of her with my phone.
Bethany, Julie, and I walked over to Target for lunch and to pick up a couple things. Not very many people out and about. Sort of like a ghost town.
Every year, we switch off between our parents for the holidays. One couple will get us on Thanksgiving and the other will get us on Christmas. This year was Bethany's family's turn to have us over for Thanksgiving and we decided to go to Portland again for the weekend. If you remember correctly, we did the same thing last year, except we had Thanksgiving dinner at my parents' first. Since we were going to either be on the road or already in P-Town on Thanksgiving Day, we had our turkey dinner on the night before. Here, you see Bethany and Julie making Indian corn cupcakes for dessert. We are obviously back from Portland already and I plan on having pictures from our trip posted early next week.
Tawnya bought a gingerbread house to work on with Julie. She loved it of course.
Turned out really well. Juliana was so proud of it that she had to show it to me as soon as I got home.
It was my birthday on Wednesday and my request was going to Peking Wok for dinner. It's my second favorite restaurant in the whole entire world. Pictured above is a dish that I get every single time I go there, mapo tofu.
Bethany made me a chocolate birthday cake with my new favorite homemade frosting. I never want to eat canned frosting ever again (well, except for Rainbow Chip). It's also the first cake she used her new Cricut Cake machine on. Pretty nice. Loved having my family there to celebrate with me. A couple of gifts I got were a new ramen bowl, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World on Blu-ray, and a brand new cell phone.
Smartphone to be exact. That's right, I got a Windows Phone 7 phone. My parents offered to buy me one for my b-day since they knew I was planning on getting something. Due to the importance of my position, I need to be able to check work e-mail when I'm out of the office. I was going to go with the G2 Android phone until I tried out WP7 and fell in love with it.
I got the HTC HD7, which is the only Windows Phone 7 phone available for T-Mobile. It's actually really nice. Huge screen, nice touchscreen, great interface, and easy social networking connection. I could go on and on about the positives.
The few negatives are lack of multitasking, copypasta, and amount of apps. The apps marketplace is getting bigger and better all the time and the other missing features should be available in an update early next year. I think once those things happen, WP7 is perfect for me. To see more pictures of my phone, birthday dinner, and last week's snowstorm, please view the full set.
