Met up with Jason, Molly, and James two weekends ago to take a walk on the Des Moines Creek Trail. Part of it is newly opened and connects to the waterfront.
There's a really neat area under a bridge along the trail that is awesome for pictures.
I would hate to be sitting on this bench when those rocks come tumbling down behind it.
James and Julie ran all over the place. I think James actually ran Julie out, which barely ever happens since she has so much energy.
Juliana got so tired that she wanted to climb on my shoulders. Once James saw that, he got on Jason's shoulders, too.
At the end, the kids got to throw rocks into the stream water flowing towards the ocean.
This last weekend was so warm and sunny. We hit the mid-60s and decided to let Julie ride around on her bike at the Interurban Trail. She's doing really well with that.
After the bike ride, we headed over to Earthworks Park in Kent. We actually had never been there before because it looks kinda sketchy, but we had fun.
There are lots of hills there that I believe are man-made. Julie loved running up and down them.
This past Sunday, me, my dad, Bethany, and Tawnya went up to The Summit at Snoqualmie to take Julie skiing for the first time. They still had tons of snow up there.
When we got there, I was putting my ski boots on when I suddenly threw out my back. It hurt so bad that I could barely walk. I've never done that before, so I was worried that I had done some kind of permanent damage. I had to wait by the car for a little bit, but I finally gathered enough strength to walk up to the kid's area to watch Julie. I wasn't going to miss this for the world. I still felt bad on Monday and had to miss work, but Tuesday was a big improvement. I'm fine now.
We decided to put Juliana in lessons since this was her first time. She listened to the instructor pretty well. Here she is learning how to do the pizza.
Trying on one ski to get the feel of it. I found that ski helmet for her at Target in the clearance section. Nothing wrong with it other than a couple marks that we were able to get out with a Magic Eraser. Only $13! Children's ski helmets typically sell for 35-75 bucks.
It was such a nice day, too. Couldn't have really asked for anything better. It was Super Bowl Sunday, so the crowd wasn't terrible, but still busier than expected. My dad and I usually ski on this day, but that's at Crystal. We only came to Snoqualmie because it's significantly cheaper for lessons and rentals.
Two skis now and a couple runs already in. She got kind of frustrated with slipping a lot while just standing. It could have turned into a meltdown like we saw some kids have, but Julie never gave up.
They have these little lifts called Magic Carpets in the beginners area. It's basically like those moving sidewalks you find in airports, but for skis. Julie loved them and did really well getting off of them. Always needed help for getting on.
We only had Julie in AM class, so after lunch, my dad slapped on his skis and went down the hill with her a few times. She absolutely loved it and boy is she a speed demon. She loves going fast, which is a small problem because she doesn't know how to stop yet. She has the wedge down, but not enough to slow down.
Here's a little video of one of Julie's runs. She has great balance. She didn't want to leave. We had to make her and now she says that she can't wait to go skiing again. To see more pictures from skiing, parks, and bike riding, view the full set.
