Got three new songs that I've been listening to a lot.
#3 Beach House - "Myth"
Katy Perry's Teenage Dream overshadowed Beach House's Teen Dream in 2010. It's not that both artists sound the same, but rather based on popularity. Beach House's Teen Dream was one of my favorite albums of 2010 and I looked forward to their fourth studio album, Bloom. After joining record label Sub Pop, their productions have been outstanding. Bloom continues this tradition with an album that I might like more than the last one. The band sold 41,000 copies in the first week of Bloom's release and it debuting at #7 on the Billboard 200. The whole album is dreamy and fantastic, but it's the first track, "Myth," that always sucks me in. I can easily see this song playing on the soundtrack to some indie movie or romantic comedy. Download this album now.
#2 Of Monsters and Men - "Little Talks"
I saw my friend Joel recommend this band on Facebook. Being the music fan and always giving something a chance, I took a listen and I was immediately hooked. Of Monsters and Men is a new musical group from Garður, Iceland. They are a six-piece indie folk/indie band who have had quite the success story. After topping the charts in their home country, they signed with Universal for a worldwide release of their debut album, My Head Is an Animal, which was released in the U.S. in April. They peaked on the US Alternative Albums and US Rock Albums charts at #1, and the Billboard 200 at #6. They sound like one part Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, one part The Head And The Heart, and one part Mumford & Sons. "Little Talks" is the first single from their album, but it was hard for me to chose a favorite right now. I'm sure you'll see this band on a top three again soon.
#1 Silversun Pickups - "Bloody Mary (Nerve Endings)"
Silversun Pickups have been one of my top five favorite mainstream bands for a few years now and they recently came out with their third full-length album called Neck of the Woods. "Bloody Mary (Nerve Endings)" is the first single off of the new album and I can tell why they chose it. Like most SSP songs, it's catchy as all heck. It's been on repeat on my music player for about a week now. This hasn't really given me a chance to explore many of the other songs on the album yet, so I can't say for sure if it's a good record or not. Carnavas and Swoon were awesome in that I could listen to all the tracks and love every single one of them. I'll try to report back on if I feel the same way about Neck of the Woods. For now, just enjoy this song.
What have you been listening to lately?
