Got three new songs that I'm currently digging that I think you should check out.
#3 Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros - "Home"
I dare you not to get the whistling in this song stuck in your head. Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros is an ensemble band led by Alex Ebert, vocalist of the power pop group Ima Robot. "Home" comes from their first full-length album released last year, Up from Below. The album reached #187 on the Billboard 200, but the song was voted #15 on the Australian Triple J Hottest 100 - 2009 countdown, the largest music poll in the world. You may have heard it before on the trailer for the John C. Reilly and Jonah Hill film, Cyrus. I like to describe it as alternative country, but I might be wrong about that.
#2 Hans Zimmer - "Time"
Inception is one of my favorite films of the year, and one of the reasons for that is the wonderful soundtrack that was written and composed by Hans Zimmer. After my second viewing of the film, I immediately downloaded the album and have listened to it on almost a daily basis. I think it's one of Zimmer's best works and brought so much emotion to the film. My favorite song from the soundtrack is "Time" which is the one played during the last few minutes of the film. Both times I left the theatre, I had this song stuck in my head for the rest of the day.
#1 Arcade Fire - "Rococo"
Canadian indie rock band Arcade Fire is certainly not new to the scene. But their third album, The Suburbs, is quite new as it was released last week. It has already reached #1 on the UK Albums Chart, Irish Albums Chart, and U.S. Billboard 200, and deservingly so. It's a great album that I've listened to quite a bit. The title track "The Suburbs" is their first single, and it's great, but I've come to enjoy "Rococo" a whole lot. It reminds me a bit of Funeral's "Wake Up", but with a Native American flair. Probably won't see this one come out as a single, but it's still an awesome track. By the way, there's no cool way to sing this song because I feel like an idiot when I say "rococo". Sometimes I say "hot cocoa".
Oh yeah, I also like the Bed Intruder song, but I don't think that counts. What songs/bands are you digging right now? Be sure to see all my previous favorite songs for more great music.
