Glad We Are 1977

Got three new songs that I've been listening to a lot.

#3 Ana Tijoux - "1977"

If earlier this year you had told me that one of my favorite songs would be a Spanish female rap song, I would have rolled my eyes and walked away. Then I would go home, toast up some Eggo waffles, and chew and eat them slowly while staring at your Facebook profile picture. Between bites, I would contemplate unfriending you, but then I would see that someone posted a funny article from The Onion and I would go read that and then forgive you. It's not that I don't like Spanish rap. I'll listen to anything that is catchy enough, but I just wouldn't expect it to be this. "1977" is a song by Ana Tijoux that I heard on the hit AMC show Breaking Bad. It appears in episode 5 of season 4 of the series and is one of my favorite moments from the show. When I play the song at work, all of my co-workers peek their heads around the cubicle walls and give me weird looks. I just reply "I know. I know."

#2 fun. feat. Janelle MonĂ¡e - "We Are Young"

It's the #1 song on the Billboard Hot 100 right now. It actually came out last year in September, so here's a popular song that I am once again late to the party for. What's great about the song is the super catchy chorus. It's just got all the right sounds, rhythm, and beats. You will get it stuck in your head. You may have heard this song on the stunt Chevrolet commercial that played during the Super Bowl. The song is certified 2x Platinum now by the RIAA and I'm sure the success will keep on rollin'. Haven't heard many of fun.'s other songs enough yet, but I have the album, so I'll be listening to it soon.

#1 The Wanted - "Glad You Came"

Alright, so if Spanish rap wasn't weird enough for you, how about a British boy band having a song that's my #1? I know. I know. The Wanted are based out of London and released Battlegrounds through Island Records. "Glad You Came" is the second single off of the album and it debuted at #1 in the United Kingdom and Ireland. It has so far peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 here in the U.S. I don't really know what else to say about the song. I like it. It's catchy, singable, and danceable. Maybe I'm just going through a pop phase right now since I also am still digging The Decoration.

What have you been listening to lately?
