Get Stairway Reaction

Got three new songs that I've been listening to a lot.

#3 Yukon Blonde - "Stairway"

I have my co-worker and friend, Dano, to thank for this one. He sent this music video to me saying that it reminded him of Andrew for some reason. I think it has a lot to do with the cleaning, but the song was really catchy and I found myself eventually having to download the album. Yukon Blonde is a Canadian indie band from Kelowna, British Columbia. I had never heard of them before, so I was surprised to find out that they were named one of the "10 Canadian bands destined to break in 2010" by the CBC. "Stairway" comes off of their second LP called Tiger Talk and you will be singing the chorus repeatedly. Their sounds reminds me a lot of the band Real Estate.

#2 Death Grips - "Get Got"

Pitchfork recently reviewed Death Grips' first of two planned 2012 albums, The Money Store. They gave it an 8.7 and named it some of the Best New Music. I checked out a few of their tracks and I would say they are just okay for now. However, their first song on the album, "Get Got," was immediately liked by myself. Death Grips is best described as experimental rap in my opinion. There's lots of buzzing, synth, guitar, and other things you might not normally hear in traditional rap. I like "Get Got" more for its music than its lyrics. The drumbeat right at the beginning instantly reminds me of the movie Hook for some reason. You know the scene where the Lost Boys are trying to get Peter back in shape. You know, "Gotta train! In the rain! In the sun! In the snow! Ten below!" But then this other-worldly beat drops 11 seconds in that is just amazing.

#1 Sucré - "Chemical Reaction"

Having another Sucré song on one of my favorite songs posts was just bound to happen. I'm a big fan of their debut album A Minor Bird, though I would say that I'm not absolutely blown away by it. The music is top-notch. They really experimented with sounds and rhythms on this record and I am totally digging it. It's the lyrics that kind of turn me off. Stacy Dupree's voice is beautiful. There's no doubting that, but I feel like the words just don't match the music very well. As if they wrote the music first and had her write the lyrics after. I know this is a common way of writing music, but perhaps it's not the norm for Eisley. Again, Dupree is super talented, but there's a little bit of disappointment here. All that being said, "Chemical Reaction" is an awesome song. The music is great and the perfect example as to why I dig this album.

What have you been listening to lately?
