REVIEW: The Campaign

There are no spoilers in this review.

PLOT: In order to gain influence over their North Carolina district, two CEOs seize an opportunity to oust long-term congressman Cam Brady by putting up a rival candidate. Their man: naive Marty Huggins, director of the local Tourism Center.

THE GOOD: Funny. The Campaign is Will Ferrell's funniest movie since Step Brothers. I would actually say that it's on par with that film in terms of overall entertainment, but still doesn't come close to the classics that are Anchorman and Talladega Nights. That might be because it's missing frequent collaborator, Adam McKay who is busy preparing for the Anchorman sequel. Still, with the addition of Zach Galifianakis and the two guys who work on Eastbound & Down, this movie keeps up the laughter and you'll find yourself at some point in a gut-wrenching giggle fest. It's an appropriate time for this movie to come out with it being an election year and party lines feeling more divided than ever. The story and the messages are simple, but that's kind of what you expect from this.

Here is an official still from the movie with Will Ferrell and that one hobbit who eats a lot.

THE BAD: Profanity. Man, do people really swear that much?

THE END: I know this is a short review, but when it comes to brainless comedies like this one, a lot of the elements are going to just be okay. Not much worth praising and not much to count against it. This movie is only worth seeing if you have enjoyed all of Will Ferrell's previous potty-humor movies. If not, this might be a little too much for you. Still, there's no need to rush out to the theatre for this, so unless you are desperate for a comedy, I'd wait to rent. The Campaign will be out in theatres this Friday, August 10th.

DISCUSS: What did you think of The Campaign? What is your favorite Will Ferrell movie? Are you looking forward to Anchorman 2?

I thought all hobbits had curly hair.
