REVIEWS: 2012 Wrap-Up

I do not have enough time to write a full review for each movie I've seen in the last couple months, so I'm choosing to briefly mention them all here. Movie reviews in the future might have to be scaled down a bit due to the busyness of life at the moment.

Silver Linings Playbook
One of the films that was holding me back from writing this style of reviews because it's worth talking about so much. Loved everything about this movie. Already named it my #4 movie of the year. The acting is brilliant all around. If I could vote for Best Picture for the Oscars, this is what I would choose. See it now!

Fun Fact: When Bradley Cooper started driving, Jennifer Lawrence was just born.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2
I loved the ending/climax of the film. It was so well thought-out that I wondered where this kind of creativity was for the rest of the series. Other than that, this movie is crap. Wait for it to play on TV.

KRISTEN STEWART: "Do you think that the director of Snow White and the Huntsman down there looks cute?"

This is 40
Really enjoyed the first two-thirds of this film. Hilarious even though I couldn't relate to it since I have young girls, am happily married, and am not even 30 yet. The ending loses a lot of steam. Perhaps it should have borrowed from Twilight. Rent it.

One of the rare scenes where a character isn't on a toilet going poop, but you can tell that they are thinking about it.

Cloud Atlas
Enjoyed this a lot more than the general public and critics. The Wachowski siblings just make gorgeous films in my opinion. The story is intriguing too, but maybe too ambitious for most people. I think this level of risk should be rewarded. Was captured by all of the Neo Seoul sequences. Rent it.

There goes any attempt to break the stereotype that all Asians look alike.

Total Recall
Why can't Kurt Wimmer write anything good like Equilibrium anymore? Real standard action flick with no surprises. Only positive thing I can say about this movie was any of "The Fall" sequences. Cool concept. Wait for it to play on TV.

This isn't the Rekall machine. It's actually what Colin Farrell has to go through every morning to get his American accent installed.

Amour
Another film that would benefit from a full review. Michael Haneke made a different feeling of a film from The White Ribbon. A lot more subtle, but very powerful and poignant. Made #7 on my top ten. A must-see.

If you're feeling depressed, Amour is the perfect film to brighten your day.

Django Unchained
Tarantino's writing is just as good as ever. Fun action. Another fantastic performance by Christoph Waltz. Only issue with it was Jamie Foxx. Thought his performance was dreadfully boring until the end. Rent it.

I think a better title for this movie would have been "Leonardo DiCaprio Shows You Things."

Les Misérables
Good, not great. Loved the singing and the music. Performances were great all around. Russell Crower gets more flack than he deserves for his singing. He wasn't bad at all. Thought that the framing of shots were good, but got bored of the static shots of the actors' singing. Rent it.

I wish there was more singing in this movie.
