Got three new songs that I've been listening to a lot.
#3 Rhye - "Open"
Saw Rhye's debut album Woman praised all over the place, so decided to give it a listen. It's really good stuff. Rhye's members are the Canadian Mike Milosh and the Danish Robin Hannibal. Milosh is an electronic musician and vocalist. He was a classically-trained cellist from age 3 and had become a jazz aficionado. He later moved to Berlin, Germany to pursue music as a vocalist and a producer. He released two albums using the name Milosh on the Plug Research record label. Hannibal was a member of the Danish duo Quadron alongside Coco Maja Hastrup Karshøj on Plug Research, the same label as Milosh. Quadron, an indie pop, electronica, soul, jazz, and rap formation had released a self-titled album Quadron in July 2009. The two artists were informed of each other through their common record label and decided to meet and track three songs together. They quickly found that their stuff works really well with one another, so now we have Woman. "Open" was one of their first early released singles that went online without much detail on who the band was or if they were doing an album. I'm glad they did.
#2 The Joy Formidable - "The Leopard and the Lung"
The Joy Formidable's Wolf's Law will be in my top ten albums of the year. I am still finding new favorite songs on that record and that is a clear sign that I have deep appreciation for it. "The Leopard and the Lung" is one of their longer tracks on Wolf's Law and I love it. It's so loud and that's the way you have to listen to it.
#1 Hurts - "Stay"
Hurt's just came out with their second album earlier this month called Exile. I'm still checking it out, but before I got it, I had been listening to their 2010 album called Happiness, and now I love it. There are so many good songs that I'm discovering on here, and "Stay" seems to be my favorite for now. It's simply a song about having to say good-bye to someone you love, or really it's just a love song more than anything. Hurts is a band that has a sort of 80s vibe to it. Not incredibly deep 80s sound, but it's there. Reminds me of Young Galaxy or White Lies. Hurts is an English synthpop duo formed in 2009, consisting of singer Theo Hutchcraft and synthesist Adam Anderson.
What have you been listening to lately?
