Been seeing people do this on movie sites and thought it would be fun to do on my own. Let's take a look at my top ten most anticipated movies lists that I did last year and see whether or not I enjoyed those movies, or if they were successful in the box office.
Top 10 Most Anticipated Movies of 2013:
#10 Trance - I never got a chance to see it, but I heard it was just okay. Didn't do any big numbers in the box office.
#9 Stoker - Again, didn't see it. I didn't get out to the movies much earlier in 2013. Reviews weren't great and it didn't make much money.
#8 Monsters University - Saw it and I enjoyed it, though I bet those who were younger when Monsters Inc. came out were able to connect better. It made lots of money.
#7 Man of Steel - I enjoyed it, but not even close to the same sense that I enjoyed The Dark Knight. Film received mediocre reviews, but performed very well in the box office.
#6 The Great Gatsby - Wow. Didn't see this either. I'm bad at taking my own advice.
#5 Sin City: A Dame to Kill For - It was delayed yet again. I put it on my 2014 list.
#4 Saving Mr. Banks - I really liked Saving Mr. Banks and put it at #20 in my Top 20 of 2013. Critics generally enjoyed it, too, and the movie has done well enough in the box office.
#3 Star Trek Into Darkness - You know, I heard a lot of people did not enjoy this sequel, but I had a really good time with it. Non-stop action. Didn't do as well in the box office as they were expecting, but still made a lot of money.
#2 Gravity - Should have put it at #1 because this was my favorite film of the year. Still, I'm satisfied that I was able to call this one. Very well-received by critics and is even getting a re-release after all its nominations.
#1 The World's End - Ended up being #10 in my top 20 of the year. Hilarious, great finish to the Cornetto trilogy. People liked it and it made so-so money.
Top 10 Most Anticipated Indie Movies of 2013
#10 Nebraska - Paramount bought it and it's nominated for Oscars. I loved it and put it at #4 on my list.
#9 Labor Day - Pushed to January 31, 2014. Not really looking forward to it much anymore.
#8 Breathe In - I've read very good reviews for Drake Doremus' follow-up to Like Crazy, but have not been able to see it myself quite yet.
#7 You Are Here - The movie premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, but no word yet on a distributor or release date.
#6 To The Wonder - Didn't see it, but Malick fans enjoyed it.
#5 The Grand Budapest Hotel - Fox Searchlight picked it up and it's due out March 7th.
#4 The Bling Ring - I was one of the few who seemed to like this movie. Didn't do well with the critics or the box office.
#3 Only God Forgives - Didn't see it, but there were scathing reviews for this one.
#2 The Double - Magnolia Pictures will be releasing the film in the U.S. on March 7th.
#1 Mood Indigo - I haven't seen it because I don't know where to find it. It has not gotten a U.S. release and getting a DVD copy is difficult.
Not too shabby, if I do say so myself.
