Happy New Year. Here is my "Top 10 Most Anticipated Movies of 2014" list. This list includes movies that are most likely getting wide releases and will be possible blockbusters. I am also doing a Top 10 Most Anticipated Indie Movies list that will be posted soon. This is only my opinion.
#10 Jupiter Ascending - The Wachowski siblings just do something for me. The Matrix is one of my favorite movies of all-time, I thought Speed Racer was full of fun, and I couldn't see what people were complaining about for Cloud Atlas. So, it only makes sense for me to add Jupiter Ascending on this list. Considering that it's a sci-fi action film, great special effects will be relied upon again. Good to see visual effects designer John Gaeta on this, as well as a score from Oscar-winner Michael Giacchino.

#9 Sin City: A Dame to Kill For - I'm so hesitant to put this on my list again since I have done so three times in the last six years and we have yet to see much from it. However, I think I can say with confidence now that Sin City 2 will be out this year. Does that mean I'm not worried? No. As far as I'm concerned Robert Rodriguez hasn't directed anything good since the first movie. Frank Miller's storytelling abilities seem to have gone down the pooper, along with his directing skills, which are none. Really, it's Academy Award-winning writer William Monahan who I'm hoping can save this movie from turning into a disaster. Please.
Release date: August 22, 2014
Trailer: Not yet released, but there's a poster.
#8 X-Men: Days of Future Past - There are good reasons to be excited about this X-Men movie. For one, Bryan Singer is back to direct after being out of the mutant realm since X2. The second good reason would be how it molds together the original team and the First Class team we were introduced to two years ago. That means a huge cast including Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, James McAvoy, Halle Berry, and Ellen Page. Third, that's not going to stop them from introducing new characters, like Quicksilver (played by American Horror Story's Evan Peters) and Bolivar Trask (played by Game of Thrones' and Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winner Peter Dinklage).

#7 How to Train Your Dragon 2 - How to Train Your Dragon was a welcome surprise back in 2010 for me. I remember thinking about how horrible it looked in the trailers and how pleased I was that it actually had a deeper story. What How to Train 2 has going for it is writer and director Dean DeBlois sticking with the production for not only these two films, but also a third set to come out in 2016. It'll be tough to match the joy and visual spectacle of the first film, but I'm anticipating DreamWorks Animation to really pull out all the stops, considering that this is really their biggest potential right now.
Release date: June 13, 2014

#6 Noah - While not the most exciting story I wanted Darren Aronofsky to direct next, Noah can prove to be quite epic in his hands. It's my most anticipated theatrical religious film of the year, of which there are quite a few, including Son of God, God's Not Dead, Heaven is for Real, and Exodus. The excellent cast of Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Anthony Hopkins, Emma Watson, and Logan Lerman should carry the film well. Considering that pretty much everyone from Aronofsky's previous films is involved, it's safe to say that this will be good.
Release date: March 28, 2014

#5 Dumb and Dumber To - There's a lot at stake here. Dumb & Dumber continues to be one of my favorite comedies of all-time. Dumb and Dumberer almost ruined the franchise, but thankfully people ignored it and forgot about it. Dumb and Dumber To brings back the Farrelly brothers who have the potential of creating a worthy sequel since they managed to get Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels back. It'll be 20 years since the incredibly stupid duo appeared on screen together, so we're hoping there will be some fresh story ideas going on in this film.
Release date: November 14, 2014
Trailer: Not yet released, but there's a behind-the-scenes photo.
#4 Big Hero 6 - I've noticed how Tokyo has an influence on my movie tastes sometimes. Big Hero 6 takes place in a fictional city called San Fransokyo, and from what Walt Disney Animation has shown us already, it looks gorgeous. This will actually be the first Disney animated feature to have Marvel characters since The Walt Disney Company's acquisition of Marvel Entertainment in 2009. I don't know much about the storyline behind Big Hero 6, but considering WDA's track record and the producers involved, I'm expecting this to be a surprise hit.
Release date: November 7, 2014
Trailer: Not yet released, but there's first look footage.
#3 Inherent Vice - Paul Thomas Anderson is one of my favorite directors. Inherent Vice is his next feature film, which is based on a 2009 novel by Thomas Pynchon. The movie features his The Master star Joaquin Phoenix, who we know had another spectacular year with his performance in Her. The story is about a private investigator who investigates the disappearance of his ex-girlfriend and her boyfriend in Los Angeles. I feel good about this one, especially since Anderson's script comes with Pynchon's blessing.
Release date: TBA 2014
Trailer: Not yet released, but here is a behind-the-scenes photo.
#2 The Grand Budapest Hotel - Wes Anderson doing his best Wes Anderson is fine by me. His style is obviously uniquely his own, yet he comes up with such original and captivating stories to tell. The guy doesn't make bad movies and that's a fact. With a huge cast including... well... just watch the trailer.

Here it is, the moment you've all been waiting for...
#1 - A Haunted House 2 - Sike!
#1 Interstellar - Far be it from me to not put a Christopher Nolan movie in the #1 spot. This time, the director re-teams with his scribe brother, Jonathan Nolan, to bring us a sci-fi film about a team who travels through a wormhole. That's really all we know about the story, so far. The director is reaching out a little further this time to get actors to join him, including Matthew McConaughey, Jessica Chastain, Casey Affleck, Topher Grace, Wes Bentley, John Lithgow, Ellen Burstyn, and Matt Damon. New regular Anne Hathaway will also star, as well as Nolan's good luck charm, Michael Caine. If this movie sucks, it'll be Nolan's first bad film.
