The Dragon Prince

Back in November 2012, I announced my involvement with a new live-action film adaptation of the 1982 animated film The Flight of Dragons with my friend, director Jesse Stipek. We got pretty far in with a Kickstarter campaign, 7,328 fans on Facebook, and even talks with some big names in Hollywood like Lost and The Lord of the Ring's Dominic Monaghan. My job was solely online marketing. Sadly, the project has been set on a permanent hiatus as the license rights to the project got a bit overcomplicated.

To avoid further legal trouble, while also staying within the realm of fantasy and dragons, Jesse is beginning an original project called "The Dragon Prince." Again, he has asked me to help out with social network marketing and other things online. One of the things he requested for me to do was write the official press release for the upcoming film. Here it is:

A DRAGON FANTASY CLASSIC IN THE MAKING FROM THE PRODUCER OF THE LAST UNICORN
National Film Festival for Talented Youth award-winning director Jesse Stipek invites fantasy and dragon lovers to get involved with his next exciting project, “The Dragon Prince.”
“The Dragon Prince” is the wild story of a celebrated dragon-slayer. One day, he is magically cursed to become a dragon himself. It is only then when he learns what it’s like to be feared, reviled and preyed upon for sport. Quickly, he discovers more about himself, as well as the error of his ways.
This new original film is written by Michael Chase Walker, the producer of the 1982 animated classic “The Last Unicorn,” and former Creative Affairs Director at Rankin/Bass Productions. A 10-minute scene from the script will be shot before the feature film to help funding. The opportunity to contribute to the initial short film financially will be available soon on Kickstarter with special perks, including the chance to obtain newly designed DVD sleeves for personal copies of 1982’s “The Flight of Dragons,” signed by writer Jeffrey Walker, composer Maury Laws and art designer Wayne Anderson.
This ambitious and passionate project will be created and unleashed by a talented crew. Original music will be composed by Emmy Award-winner Carl Johnson (“Piglet’s Big Movie”), with performances from members of The Seattle Symphony. Visual effects company, BluFire Studios, will lend their visionary touches, along with additional artists working for Weta Workshop and Pixar. Cavallo Equestrian Arts, an equestrian operation whose history descends from Roman chevaliers and destriers, will provide horses and stunts. Acting auditions will take place soon with more information available on the official Facebook page.
“The Dragon Prince” is a Trico Films production.
