Got three new songs that I've been listening to a lot.
#3 Black Light Dinner Party - "Light Around"
Really digging the neo-'80s stuff lately. Black Light Dinner Party's music sounds like what dream pop would have been if it came out three decades ago. BLDP's album Sons and Lovers was released in September and is one of the few full albums that I listen to in the car these days. Practically every song on this record is awesome, but I'm finding myself very keen on "Light Around," the third track on Sons and Lovers.
#2 Wild Nothing - "Only Heather"
As far as indie records go, Wild Nothing's Nocturne has been on repeat for me. It's too bad that this is a 2012 album that I didn't start listening to until 2013, because then it would have definitely made my top 10 of last year. Still, it's better late than never because I love this band's sound. "Only Heather" is my clear favorite on the album. I almost made this #1, and probably should have, but my tardiness makes it lose some of its "cool" factor.
#1 The Chain Gang of 1974 - "Sleepwalking"
If you've seen a Grand Theft Auto V commercial or have played the game, it is likely that you've heard this song. Yet another modern indie band influenced by the '80s, The Chain Gang of 1974 really has a chance to make it big with their catchy sound and booming confidence. When I first heard "Sleepwalking," I swore it was a song from the '80s. After all, one of the most popular games in the GTA series is still Vice City. But no, this is a recent song that I think anyone can love.
What have you been listening to lately?
