Best Actor: Joaquin Phoenix in The Master
Runners-up: Philip Seymour Hoffman in The Master, Logan Lerman in The Perks of Being a Wallflower
Thoughts: No one had a better performance than Joaquin Phoenix this year. He was simply incredible in The Master. He deserves to win the Oscar, but I'm afraid that he won't.
Runner-up: Anne Hathaway in Les Misérables
Thoughts: Jennifer Lawrence was meh in The Hunger Games, but she really shined in Silver Linings Playbook. The scene where she argues with Robert De Niro is the best piece of acting that she has ever done. She takes complete control of that scene, so it's moments like that where you realize that Lawrence is going to be relevant for years to come.
Best Breakthrough Performance: Quvenzhané Wallis in Beasts of the Southern Wild
Thoughts: Is there really any question? Wallis was only five years old when they cast her as the lead in Beasts. I wonder if my five year old could act like that.
Best Soundtrack: Wreck-It Ralph
Runners-up: Skyfall, Nexus
Thoughts: I only bought one soundtrack in 2012 and that was Wreck-It Ralph. I think the music is so fun and love how it changes per environment the characters go in. The AKB48 song is also great.
Worst Movie of the Year: Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
Runner-up: To Rome with Love
Thoughts: Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter not only failed to be entertaining, but it wasn't even faithful to the book. Which, by the way, was written by the same guy who wrote the screenplay. What the heck!?
Best Sci-Fi Film: The Cabin in the Woods
Runners-up: Looper, Prometheus
Thoughts: The Cabin in the Woods is a mix between horror and sci-fi, and those who have seen the film know why. It was my second favorite film of the year.
Best Comedy: 21 Jump Street
Thoughts: When I look at this category, I try to think of what movie made me laugh the most. This year, it was 21 Jump Street. It still cracks me up, and it was one of the bigger surprises of 2012.
Crush of the Year: Alison Brie
Runners-up: Carly Rae Jepsen, Emily Browning
Thoughts: Yep. Same as last year. Still stuck on her for some reason.
Best TV Series: The Legend of Korra
Runners-up: Mad Men, Downton Abbey, Game of Thrones, Homeland
Thoughts: Out of all the shows I saw in 2012, The Legend of Korra not only met my expectations, but surpassed them in huge amounts. This is not your typical kids show. The Avatar series has grown up a bit and the animation, action, and story are better than ever.
